Northern Virginia Photographer | Cherry Blossom Photographer | Woodbridge Family Photographer5/1/2017
Awe, the beauty of spring is such a wonderful thing. We meet on an early Saturday morning in Washington D.C. for their spring portrait sessions with the Cherry Blossoms. The cherry blossoms are what Washington D.C. is known for during the spring. We had just seen each other a few weeks ago for a promotion ceremony, so it was nice catching up to see what they been doing since we last saw each other.
We met at Hains Point for their session to avoid the crowds of the Tidal Basin. We had such a wonderful time, especially the children. I purchased and use Apple Boxes to create different height perspectives for families when I photograph them. The kids had a great time playing with my Apple Boxes. I never thought the boxes would be such a hit for the kids and how they just loved playing with them. By the time we finished their portrait session, I told the parents they just may have to purchase their own set.

Family Portraits with Cherry Blossoms Aaahh...it's spring in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. and that means it's time for Cherry Blossoms. Spring is definitely one of my favorite times of the year because I get to photograph beautiful families and their contagious smiles. If you've visited Washington D.C. during the peak bloom of the Cherry Blossoms, you know the Tidal Basin quickly fills up with visitors wanting to photograph the beautiful petals of the blossoms. So we opted for a less occupied area - Hains Point. Hains point is a great location for portraits because the streets are lined with Cherry Blossom trees and the people traffic is minimal compared to the hustle and bustle of the Basin.
It was just a few short weeks ago and we were in the middle of 70° to 80° degree weather in the DMV area. With the cherry blossoms in the background, it was the perfect atmosphere for a family portrait. To avoid the numerous people that come to see the sights and scenes of the cherry blossoms near the Tidal Basin, we opted for Hains Point. This area provided us a private scenic view of the blossoms with reduced foot and vehicle traffic. Where did the warm days go? We thought we were going to have an early spring heat wave. It seems we were tricked. Because of the cold snap, The National Park service has pushed the peak bloom of the Cherry Blossoms in Washington D.C. back another 5 days. This year's bloom was initially expected for March 14-17 -- but now the National Park Service is thinking it'll be more like March 19-22.
Spring has arrived in The Northern Virginia area. If you've taken a ride or walk around your neighborhood, you will notice a lot of white and red blooms on trees (and tulips in my neighborhood). Just yesterday, The National Park Service in Washington D.C. released the Peak Bloom dates for the Cherry Blossoms. Do you know what that means? It's time for warmer weather and we get to begin adding lots of fun and vibrant colors to our wardrobes again. As a family photographer I'm often asked for clothing recommendations, so I've decided to blog and suggest a few recommendations for upcoming spring portrait sessions in the Northern Virginia area. I'm always happy to assist and provide guidance on clothing recommendations. We can schedule a consultation to discuss your wardrobe ideas or you are welcome to call my studio.
