Space Force Promotion CeremonyAs a photographer with a passion for capturing significant moments such as military ceremonies, I have been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to photograph a Space Force military ceremony since the inception of the branch of service. That dream finally came true when Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Sawyer called and asked about my availability to photograph her promotion ceremony at the beautiful Mount Vernon Estate in Arlington, VA last month. I first met Lt Col Sawyer in 2018 when I had the honor of photographing her promotion to Major as an Air Force Officer. Needless to say, I was thrilled to be invited back for this monumental occasion in her career.

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Tuscaloosa, AL, where I not only got to spend quality time with my own family but also had the chance to photograph them. The experience was a heartwarming reminder of the importance of family connections and the joy of photographing those special moments. While in Tuscaloosa, I had the pleasure of photographing my Mom, Dad, and some of my Mom's siblings. Their laughter, love, and bond truly shined through in every photo, and it was an honor to be able to preserve these memories for them. Colonel for her professionalism and outstanding military service. She was surrounded by family, friends, and co-workers as she received her new rank at Mount Vernon Estate in Alexandria, Virginia. Melissa's husband happily volunteered to be the Master of Services for the event and said, "It was a special day for Melissa because she has worked hard over the years and this promotion is something she deserves." I met Melissa several years ago when I photographed her promotion to Major in 2017. Originally we were expected to have her ceremony at Mount Vernon, but we had to make a quick adjustment. Thankfully for this promotion, Lt. Colonel Sawyer was able to have her promotion ceremony at this beautiful Northern Virginia venue. A Perfectly Timed CeremonyThe weather was a bit of a challenge on the day of Lt Colonel Melissa’s our Space Force promotion ceremony. We had some rain and wind, but it cleared up just in time for her promotion ceremony. I think this was such a special moment because it showed how much effort went into making sure everything was perfect for these men and women who have worked so hard to get where they are today. The Mount Vernon Estate provided an idyllic setting for this celebration--one that will be remembered by all who attended for years to come!  |
