As a professional photographer in Northern Virginia, “What to Wear” is a commonly asked questions when families are planning their family portrait session. I totally understand receiving these questions, because everyone wants to look their best, and styles and color trends are consistently changing. Spring has arrived in The Northern Virginia area. If you've taken a ride or walk around your neighborhood, you will notice a lot of white and red blooms on trees (and tulips in my neighborhood). Just yesterday, The National Park Service in Washington D.C. released the Peak Bloom dates for the Cherry Blossoms. Do you know what that means? It's time for warmer weather and we get to begin adding lots of fun and vibrant colors to our wardrobes again.

As a Northern Virginia Family Photographer, I realize one of the hardest things to do after scheduling a portrait session is determining what everyone should wear. It can be a pain stacking task to determine colors, should the clothes be new or should it be somethings that's already owned. I'm getting tired just thinking about it!

Trying to determine what to wear to your photo shoot can be one of the most time consuming and difficult choices to make. So here are some Do's and Don't of clothing choices...(let it be known that this is MY opinion. I do not think that i'm better than anyone else. This is just a list of suggestions).
1. Match! Please DON'T!! Gone are the days of everyone wearing the same color or type of shirt and pants. You want to complement each other's outfits by choosing colors that work well together. If everyone is wearing the same outfit, they tend to blend in together and there won't be too much pop and life to the images.
Coordinate vs. Matching...let's not get cheesy!
