Preparing for Spring PortraitsSpring is one of the most wonderful seasons for many of us, especially if you live in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.. The air is fresh, the flowers are blooming, people are happy…
Why Should You Take Time to Document Your Family?
Time goes by really fast and that’s why it’s extremely important to document everything (especially the important moments) to add to your family’s history. If you think about it, it goes by faster than we think. If you’re not currently photographing your children playing with their favorite toy or washing dishing, you should start now, and make it a habit. You may believe it’s not important, but you would be surprised at how your will feel looking back at those pictures later.
Have you scheduled your Cherry Blossom portrait appointment for 2018 in Washington DC? If not, this is a great opportunity to schedule your family portraits. Spring is a wonderful time to have your family photographed. It’s a lot warmer and the beautiful blossoms and the wonderful smells are everywhere. If you haven’t scheduled your appointment, now is a great time. I will be giving one family who schedules with Tamieka Smith Photography for their Cherry Blossoms before January 21st of this year a complimentary 20 page, 10×10 Heirloom family – a $1500 value! In addition, two families will receive a $300 and $200 credit, respectively. There is no limit on the number of pictures that may be included in the album, just remember the more pictures you place in the album, the more crowded the pages become. The winners may also upgrade from this album if so desired. These albums are produced using archival inks and acid-free papers. Then handcrafted using a 1/4" thick moisture resistant, acid-free, warp-free boards and only the finest textile cover materials. These family heirloom albums are created to last for 200 plus years with less than 8% color fade.
We live in a world where almost everything is done with our computer, laptops, tablets, or smartphone. From booking tickets to making friendships, the digital medium is being preferred more and more. ![]()
But does that hold true for photographs, too? Well, thanks to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other various social media networks, people have the option to upload their photos onto their favorite social media platform and rely solely on them for friends and family to see and save these images.
Not that there is anything wrong with uploading your memories online, in fact, if nothing, it makes things so convenient! Especially if you’re a military family and you have family members living in other parts of the United States and sometimes in other places of the world, social media is rather convenient. You can now share your photos with people from all over the world and that is all great, but there are some drawbacks to this as well. Congratulations to one of the Air Force newest Lieutenant Colonel - Lieutenant Colonel Baker.
Last week, Lt Col Baker contacted me to determine my available to photograph her promotion ceremony that was being held at the National Archives Museum in Washington DC. I was honored she considered me to photograph her ceremony. We were all glad the temperatures had risen since last week. Lt Col Baker's family, friends, and co-workers were able to talk and look at the Washington Memorial (which can be seen at a distance) while waiting for the beginning of the promotion ceremony.
Here in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland the weather has been brutal. Today, the kids were released early from school because of the cold temperatures and freezing rain. The College Football National Championship game coming on tonight and it's a perfect time for some quick cook.
I usually bake these cookies when I want something sweet yet quick to bake and eat. Tip: Use a small ice cream scoop to form balls of dough, and they'll bake into gorgeous, perfectly round cookies every time.
Celebrate the Winter Season
Although Fall is over and the beautiful warm sun has retreated, doesn’t mean you can’t schedule a family portrait session. With the winter season all around us, where everything is draped in white, why not take this as an opportunity to have your family photographed in the beauty of winter. Many overlook the beauty of winter and all the different wonderful aspects that can be photographed during this time of year.
It a cold and snowy day in Washington DC yesterday and a perfect opportunity to use the outside of the National Archives as a backdrop for an Army promotion ceremony.
Because of the extreme temperatures and snow we received yesterday, the National Archives employees were placed on a two-hour delayed which meant any ceremonies held inside before the official opening of the museum are canceled. Unfortunately, this was the circumstance yesterday. Thankfully Paul bakery across from the museum as open and able to accommodate. If you didn't know this already, Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia has an extremely high population of men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces. We are home to several bases of all the different branches.
Being in the DMV area has it's privileges when it's time for promotion ceremonies, and that privilege is being able to have your ceremony inside the National Archives in front of the United States Constitution. |
