National Archives Promotion Congratulations to one of the Air Force's newest Lieutenant Colonel! Although it was raining outside the National Archives in Washington D.C., the inside was filled with friends and family ecstatic about the impeding promotion ceremony. The National Archives is seen as one of the ultimate locations to have a military promotion ceremony simply because of all the priceless documents it houses. Military members are administered the Oath of Office or Oath of Enlistment standing in front of the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution of the United States.
When fellow military spouses or veterans contact me to photograph their promotion or retirement ceremony, I'm always honored to play a small part in their big day. This ceremony wasn't any different.

A few weeks ago, I started the series "What's in your photography bag". This series is intended for photographers or those inspiring to become photographers. This is one of my most favorite lenses for close up detail images. A great example would be for wedding photographers; this would be great for taking images of those bride and groom’s wedding rings. As a wedding photographer, you can start your day off by photographing the special items of their memorial day. Or if you’re a newborn photographer, it would be great to photograph the lips of a baby or their little eye lashes.
It's Graduation Season! Whether you're graduating from pre-school, high school or college, graduations are a record of progress; a long ribbon of accomplishments pinned first on the graduate then extended secondhand to the parents, siblings and friends. No matter how long you plan to live, your history will contain more birthdays than graduations, and the quality that makes a graduation stand out, despite its limited appearance per lifetime, is the fact that you’re being celebrated for something you’ve accomplished all on your own.

This is a $250 value! Dual Military Couple | National Archives Photographer | Northern Virginia Military Photographer5/9/2017 Navy Promotion Ceremony at The National Archives in Washington D.C. Yesterday was a spectacular May morning for a Navy promotion ceremony. To make it even more special; it was a dual military couple (Air Force and Navy) where the husband administered the Oath of Office to his wife at The National Archives in Washington D.C. In addition, friends and family were present to celebrate a momentous occasion.
Hello Spring! The Dogwoods are blooming! And even better, the tulips, with a riot of colors all popping against the new green background of leaves. Spring is one of the best, and one of my favorite times of year in Washington DC and Northern Virginia to take family pictures outside. Our perfect weather, which you know is fleeting, comes with endless life events, graduations, wedding showers, weddings, and anniversary celebrations. Let me help you capture the essence of spring and these wonderful events with a spring photography session. There are dozens of area parks in Maryland, Virginia, and DC where you can schedule an outdoor portrait session. Are you a parent with kids? Do you want a recent portrait of your family? Do you have a CD of your last portrait session, but never had the time to get them printed. If so, you probably want lots of pictures of your children, because they're only children for such a short period of time. But oh my gosh, will my children sit still for a professional photograph? Will they smile? Will they be fussy? Will they listen? Will the photographer be a good mesh with my family? These are just a few of the questions you may be asking yourself. As a Mom, these are some of the questions I ask myself as a mom when I go to have photographs taken of my children and my family. Even to the extent of attempting to coach my kids into doing right and treating them afterwards...please tell me I'm not the only one.
Northern Virginia Photographer | Cherry Blossom Photographer | Woodbridge Family Photographer5/1/2017
Awe, the beauty of spring is such a wonderful thing. We meet on an early Saturday morning in Washington D.C. for their spring portrait sessions with the Cherry Blossoms. The cherry blossoms are what Washington D.C. is known for during the spring. We had just seen each other a few weeks ago for a promotion ceremony, so it was nice catching up to see what they been doing since we last saw each other.
We met at Hains Point for their session to avoid the crowds of the Tidal Basin. We had such a wonderful time, especially the children. I purchased and use Apple Boxes to create different height perspectives for families when I photograph them. The kids had a great time playing with my Apple Boxes. I never thought the boxes would be such a hit for the kids and how they just loved playing with them. By the time we finished their portrait session, I told the parents they just may have to purchase their own set.
