Cherry Blossom Family Portraits in Washington DCIt's hard to believe the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC have already bloomed and are not gone. Each year, I look forward to the arrival of spring and the blooming of these beautiful flowers. This year's Cherry Blossoms were a marvelous sight and a wonderful opportunity for amazing family portraits. Despite the chilly breeze, the pink and white blooms were breath taking. Yes, spring has sprung.
As a parent, we don’t know how our kids will interact with strangers especially when it comes to taking pictures. However, these little kiddos where excited and ready to have their portrait taken with the symbol of spring for Washington DC; I even had a creative director.

Happy Friday!!! Another week is complete and it's time for the weekend. Who's going to see Avengers: Endgames this weekend? I'm sure many of the movie theaters in Northern Virginia and around the United States will be extremely busy and movie times sold out. I'm excited to say, I purchased my family's tickets this morning.
There are so many different summer movies i'm looking forward to watching and this is the first of many. As you know I live in a house of boys and this comic series is definitely one of our family favorites. Protecting Your Family's PortraitsWhen selecting and hiring a family photographer to take your portraits, many don’t consider the importance a professional photographer takes to protect your family pictures. Unfortunately computers don't give us advance warning when it's about to fail and they can fail at any time, so I take extra care to protect your family images to ensure you receive delivery of your beautiful family portraits. Thankfully, I’ve never lost an image due to computer failure or corrupt memory cards. This is due to the necessary precautions I take to minimize this from happening and the process I use to ensure you receive your beautiful retouched portraits. Here are the steps I take to protect your family’s pictures:
Things to do for Spring Break
We made it to Friday...spring break is here!! Many families and children are excited about spring break next week in Woodbridge, VA and the surrounding area. Living so close to Washington DC offers a lot of different activities and places for our children to visit during this break from school. If you decide to avoid the beaches next week and looking for things close to home to keep your children entertained this is the blog for you. For this week’s Friday Fives, here is a list of five possibilities for spring break destinations for families in NOVA and how to keep your family entertained.
Cherry Blossom Family PortraitsSpring has sprung in Washington D.C. and do you know what that means? There are many families wanting to have their family photographed with the beautiful Japanese Cherry Blossoms in downtown Washington DC. Once you get pass the traffic, crowds of people, and find a parking space, the blossoms serves a wonderful backdrop for your family's spring photo. We met at Ft McNair, in Washington DC, where the National War College University is located right off the Potomac River. It was a beautiful sight with the blossoms on the trees, however the temperatures had us singing the burrr song. With the smiles on these bright faces; you wouldn't know the temperature were in the 40°s.
Old-Timey Ice Cream Parlor - Goolrick's
For this week’s Friday Fives, I want to tell you about this ice cream treasure in Northern Virginia. A few weeks ago, I was in Fredericksburg, Virginia for an event. While I was there, I walked past Goolrick’s – an old-timey ice cream parlor. Yes, I said ice cream. However, I didn’t have time at that moment to visit, so I decided I needed to come back. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago, so eating ice cream would definitely be diet approved.
This historic ice cream parlor is also a pharmacy and is tied in with the culture of this community. The parlor has been serving handmade ice cream for nearly 150 years. Goolrick’s is known to be the oldest continuously operated soda fountain in the entire United States. Who knew we had an ice cream shop near us with so much history?
Tips to Look Thinner and Confident in PicturesHaving your portrait taken can be overwhelming. After considering what to wear this spring for your family portrait, the next thought is how will I look? I’ve have had many clients express to tell me “I look fat” in pictures. Before, we get started, I must confess, I’m not always a huge fan of my pictures. In addition, I’m always looking for ways to look best and hide the flaws I don’t like. As a woman and professional photographer, I know many of us women are self-conscious about the way we look and want to look thinner and beautiful in our pictures especially the pictures with our family. I thought it would be helpful for you ladies to share a few helpful tips for your next portrait. 1. THE RIGHT CLOTHES.
This isn’t a posing tip, but it’s so necessary to include in this post! The clothing you choose makes a huge difference. Avoid bulky or sheer fabrics and choose fitted items (not too tight or loose). Ladies please avoid strapless and sleeveless tops — although they might look great in real life, they probably won’t translate well to the camera. |
