A Celebration of Military Service
Retirement is an important aspect of a military career. After serving at least 20 or more years, retirement can be exciting and cause nervousness at the same time. It can be a time to reflect and enjoy more time with family and friends, but it's also a time to plan for the future. The Army, Navy and Air Force are some of the most honorable organizations in the world and they do a lot of things right. One of these things is a retirement ceremony.
Whipple Field is the location for this beautiful Army promotion ceremony on Fort Myer overlooking the monuments in Washington D.C. Lieutenant Colonel Clark and his family welcomed their friends and family at the field prior to the start of the ceremony.
A few weeks ago, I received a telephone call requesting my availability to photograph a military promotion ceremony on Ft Myer at Patton Hall in Northern Virginia. Ft Myer is the home to the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own", and Headquarters U.S. Army Garrison.
It was a beautiful day; the temperature was in the low 70° and the blossoms and flowers were in full bloom. A perfect spring day for a promotion ceremony.
