It's hard to believe, but tomorrow is December 1. Where has the year gone! In a short 24 days it will be Christmas morning. It's the perfect time to begin creating and documenting those special memories with our children. It's the perfect time to capture those special candid moments of your children having fun and being silly. Don't forget to get involved and get silly as well.

Amazing portraits deserve an equally amazing display in your home but this doesn’t mean you always have to frame everything. In fact, I have some awesome products to illustrate some unique and fun ways to display your portraits. Happy, fun, & lovable. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of the Roach family. We headed to Old Town Alexandria & had a great time. Old Town Alexandria is one of those places that I never get tired of exploring. For the month of November, it was warm at almost 70°; making for a beautiful day to capture family portraits. We had a few places in mind that we wanted to hit as we walked the streets of Alexandria, such as the waterfront, a few of the quaint alleyways, and of course the cobblestone paved street, but largely we just walked around, stopping to capture images where we felt inspired.
Needless to say they had a great time! I was so surprised because the children were having a hard time at moments. To help ease their discomfort, we stopped periodically to have a cheerios break before continuing on. Let's be honest, many parents stress out when it's time for the family portrait session. Like many parents, you're stressed and may be feeling a bit apprehensive. Our biggest concern is how will our children behave and we we be able to get at least one good family photo. Children aren’t always easy to deal with or wanting to listen and follow directions exactly when we want them, which is why the tips below will definitely come in handy before your upcoming portrait session. 1. Don't make a huge deal out of it. If you're stressed out and cranky, your kids will usually pick up on it and act accordingly. Their behavior will usually be better if you are relaxed and having fun. You may have to make some compromises to keep the peace such as letting your energetic daughter's hair stay straight instead of curling it into because she won't sit still. Focus on the big picture and don't sweat the small stuff. 2. Make it fun. Let the kids have a couple “fun pictures” where they get to pick their own pose or props. You get to keep the more serious portraits while they get to keep their silly portraits. This way everyone wins. As in the portrait below, we were able to use a couple of tic tac toe pieces and use them as a prop. If you are struggling to get your kids to sit still, turn the photo session into a game. Simon Says usually works like a charm.
