What a beautiful family! The Defors gathered at The Special Event Entrance of The National Archives Museum in Washington D.C. for a Commander DeFor's Navy Promotion Ceremony. For many that live in and near the nation's capital know we're in the middle of a heat wave, because of this, we decided to take family portraits before the ceremony. Although we couldn't run from the humidity, we walked to the top of the stairs to avoid the sun and captured this beautiful family portrait.

It was a beautiful blue sky day at The National Archives Museum in Washington D.C. today. It was beautiful and ready for Navy Promotion ceremony. Lieutenant Dougherty and her family arrived at The National Archives with excitement for her promotion ceremony to meet and greet friends and family.
As a military member serving in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, there are so many beautiful locations/venues for a military ceremony. In addition, it’s easy to forget these great memories that will be photographed and captured during your promotion or retirement ceremony; especially when the pictures are locked away on your laptop, smartphone or social media.
“I just want the digital files” …that’s an email I recently received. Unfortunately, many photographers here these words more often than we care to admit. However, printing your military ceremony pictures and hanging them in your home, you’ll be able to see, enjoy, and remember them every day. Who cares if a military ceremony is photographed? At the time of the event, many don't believe it's special or worth recording and documenting. How ever if you're a military member or a family member of someone in the military and there is a promotion, retirement, reenlistment or commissioning ceremony, it's extremely important to document this family history.
Military ceremonies a very special events. Having a photographer and/or videographer is as important as having the United States Flag present. The member will wish they had pictures or the video 20 years from now (or sooner). Your pictures may one day convince a grandchild or great grandchild to join the military. I have listed the top 5 reasons to have a professional photographer at your military ceremony. Beautiful blue skies in Washington D.C. with the National Archives Museum in the center...a wonderful sight. It's was the location for today's Air Force Officer promotion ceremony.
