For some reason, many people always find a reason not to take a family portrait. As a photographer, these are some of the most popular things I hear; it's too expensive, I don't have time, I need to lose weight first, I need to get my hair done; you name it I've heard it. If we decide to take pictures ourselves, the Mom is missing, because usually she's the one taking the pictures. Many may not know, but I don't have a family picture hanging in my home of my mom, dad, brother, and myself; not even a wallet picture to show my children. As a matter of fact, as a kid, we didn't take pictures together as a family and there aren't any family portraits hanging on the walls in my childhood family's home. A few weeks ago my children asked if I had a family picture to show them (so they could see how I looked when I was younger). Unfortunately, I had to tell them "no". We simply wasn't the family that valued photography. We didn't take family portraits once a year or even every other year. As time passes, our family portraits become more valuable and priceless. They prompt our memories to what was happening at the moment the portrait was being captured. Family portrait sessions are usually happy times, so as we reflect on those images, they bring us back to a happy occasion (i.e. wedding day, first family portrait after a new baby, birthday portraits, etc). As we grow older, memories fade and the things or they way we looked will no longer be remembered. Taking family portraits acts like a diary of your family's timeline. The portrait illustrates a special moment in the time of your family. Don't take your family's history for granted! Because I don't have a single image to show my children of my childhood family, I have made it an important issue to have family portraits taken of my family at least once a year. I want to document my family and be able to look back at how my children have grown over the years. As stated before, memories fade; document your family's legacy. Not just for you, but for your children and your grandchildren. Don't trust just anyone to capture your family's legacy. Cheap photographers may not produce the results you're dreaming to achieve. Invest into your family legacy. Schedule a no obligation consult and we'll discuss how we can capture your family's history.
