I was recently contacted to photograph a family and one of the first questions asked was how many pictures will you take and I receive. Photographer X will charge $150 for a mini-session and I will receive 100 images. Well may I ask a question? What is more important, the amount of pictures you receive or their quality? Compared to many photographers, Tamieka Smith Photography offers a select amount of portrait to display to our clients during their ordering/viewing sessions (reveal). This allows us to look at all the images taken during your session and edit only the best, rather than take give you 100 images that are low in quality (eyes closed, blurry, etc.).
This is why Tamieka Smith Photography focuses on quality.
Custom photography is usually scheduled when it’s a special moment i.e., pregnancy, age milestone, or family portrait. Yes, it’s possible to take a hundred photos during a photo shoot; however, we only want to show the very best. Also, take our time getting everyone posed or captured in a special moment. Would you like to receive a portrait with someone blinking? Would you like your friends or family to receive those images? As an artist, we curate your images to show you and/or your family in the best flattering light. Still not convinced, click here to see gorgeous photos of Beyoncé.
Quality portraits take time to generate
We’re extremely detailed with our retouching. We want our client’s eyes to pop with color and overall image to look flawless. We don’t photograph perfect people; we photograph everyday people. When it comes to retouching, it takes us considerable more time retouching than the actual photo shoot.
Some people are hesitant or question the use of retouching. If this is the case, for you, please don’t hesitate to let us now; we won’t retouch. However, let’s think about this. Blemishes and bumps come and go, but blemishes don’t define the person. Portraits remain timeless, would you rather temporary blemishes stay in the portrait. Consult with us if this is an issue.

Practicality
When clients say photographer x will give me 100 images for a 60 minute portrait session; my first thought is quality vs quantity. The most obvious thing to consider is how feasible to have 100 different poses (images) taken during a 60 minutes session.

You Deserve The Best Every image our client receives has been worked on by our artist. Since we’re not working on tons of portraits, we’re able to ensure each image looks it’s very best and meets a high threshold. There are numerous photographers. We have similar looking equipment, sometimes even the same equipment; however, we don’t share the same experience. With the digital age, everyone has a camera; whether it’s via smartphone or actual camera. Usually, these images are instantaneously uploaded on Facebook or another social media platform. As stated before, we take time to ensure images look their very best. You deserve to receive only quality images, not mediocre or duplicate images.
