Protecting Your Family's PortraitsWhen selecting and hiring a family photographer to take your portraits, many don’t consider the importance a professional photographer takes to protect your family pictures. Unfortunately computers don't give us advance warning when it's about to fail and they can fail at any time, so I take extra care to protect your family images to ensure you receive delivery of your beautiful family portraits. Thankfully, I’ve never lost an image due to computer failure or corrupt memory cards. This is due to the necessary precautions I take to minimize this from happening and the process I use to ensure you receive your beautiful retouched portraits. Here are the steps I take to protect your family’s pictures: Recording Your ImagesAs a professional photographer, I use a professional camera that has two memory card slots for recording your pictures. This is essential because, if a card corrupts or has a failure, I have the other memory card as a backup. Upload Your ImagesAs soon as your family portrait session is completed, I immediately come to my office and upload your image files onto my computer. This gives me three copies of your image files. I've heard to many horror stories of other photographers losing their clients photos and I don't want to make that dreaded telephone call... Keep The Memory CardsAlthough I upload your images onto my computer, I keep the images on my memory card. Just in case my computer fails and breaks down, fire, or stolen. I still have the original memory card used in my camera to save your portraits during your session. I don’t reuse those memory cards until you have viewed your retouched images, purchased them, and received your album or wall portrait. BackupBackup…backup…backup…yes, I backup my computer. I use BackBlaze to constantly backup my office studio. Thankfully, this backup occurs several times within a day, so it minimizes lose. Backup (External Hard Drive)This is another way to ensure your images are protected. After retouching your family’s portraits, I write a blog post about your session and ensure your images are stored on my external hard drive. I keep every single retouched image I’ve taken. Yes, that’s several years’ worth of your family images safely stored. I never want to lose your images, and yes, past clients have contacted me for additional photo print copies. Although, I cannot guarantee that I’ll always have every image, it is my desire to keep them as long as I’m able (after all, technology is constantly changing and disasters do happen). Our family pictures are one of the most prized possessions. In addition to protecting your family pictures before you receive the retouched images, I offer my clients a wonderful service to have their portraits safe guarded for life. I offer life storage for a minimal fee. Let's face it life happens...whether it's a military move, computer failure, house fires, and more. This service ensures you never lose your beloved family portraits.
