A few months ago, Thomasena contacted me wanting to determine my availability to photograph her husband's promotion ceremony and party that would follow. Since I was traveling to Little Rock, AR at the time we played telephone tag for a few hours. We were finally able to speak over the phone and we arranged a day and time for us to get together to speak about her wishes. I'm so glad we were able to get together and I was able to photograph such a special moment.
When I arrived at the Venue - Potomac Shores Clubhouse, I knew it was going to be a special day for the Wicker family. Guest were starting to arrive and the anticipation was overwhelming. Although it was cool and raining outside, there were smiles and little giggles all around. As time for the ceremony arrived, the guest began to take their seats. The ceremony opened with the Pastor and family friend opening with a word of prayer. The children's choir sung Lift Every Voice and Sing and it was followed by the Oath of Office being administered.
The highlight of the ceremony was when Commander Wicker's youngest daughter placed his cover on his head. There were audible oh and awes in the room; I believe even a few tears were shed.
Once the ceremony was completed, the band began to play and the guests danced the night away.
These are a few of their special day. Congratulations Commander Wicker and Thomasena.
Hello, I'm Tamieka, owner of Tamieka Smith Photography. I would love to help you plan your family's sunset portraits in Northern Virginia (or surrounding area) or photograph your military ceremony — possibly both. Working with families and military members is my specialty. I hope you'll look at my recent work and all that’s available for you. I hope we're able to work together and I’m able to document your family’s history.
