As a photographer with a passion for capturing significant moments such as military ceremonies, I have been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to photograph a Space Force military ceremony since the inception of the branch of service. That dream finally came true when Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Sawyer called and asked about my availability to photograph her promotion ceremony at the beautiful Mount Vernon Estate in Arlington, VA last month.

I first met Lt Col Sawyer in 2018 when I had the honor of photographing her promotion to Major as an Air Force Officer. Needless to say, I was thrilled to be invited back for this monumental occasion in her career.

The ceremony took place on a rainy day at Mount Vernon Estate, with the historic mansion serving as the perfect backdrop for this special event. As an Air Force veteran and military spouse, I understand the significance of a military ceremony, and I was honored to be a part of Lt Col Sawyer's Space Force promotion.

Throughout the ceremony, I was able to capture the emotion, pride, and camaraderie that are hallmarks of military promotions. The promotion day started with heavy rain, thankfully as the day went on the rain subsided and Lt Col Sawyer was able to have her promotion ceremony at Mount Vernon Estate rain free.  The ceremony was beautiful with the estate serving as the backdrop and glimpses of the Potomac River as well.  After the promotion ceremony, Lt Col Sawyer’s guest went to the Inn for a reception and dinner.
