5 Reasons to have your Family Photographs in Washington D.C.

In this week's Friday Fives, I'll discuss five reasons why having your family pictures taken in Washington D.C. is a wonderful idea.  Living this close to Washington D.C. has its privileges; especially when it comes to taking family pictures.   

​Washington D.C. is such a beautiful place regardless of the time of year.  When it's spring the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom and make for a beautiful background for your family's spring portraits; and during Autumn, the foliage on the trees are amazing.  If you're a part of the military community, having your family's portrait taken in Washington D.C. will also be a great way to remember you were stationed in the Washington D.C. area.      

1.  Monuments

Washington D.C. is filled with so many different monuments.  The possibilities are endless.  Select your families favorite monument and have your family pictures taken with that monument.

2.  History/Memories

Along with your family's pictures, you'll have a part of history.  For example the picture above is The Lincoln Monument; it's a part of the history of our country, but also a part of the history for your family.

3.  Cherry Blossoms

If your family is visiting Washington D.C. or Northern Virginia during the spring, schedule a professional photographer to have your family portrait taken.  The cherry blossoms usually bloom during late March to mid April.

4.  Fall Foliage

Similar to spring, the fall foliage in the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. area make for a beautiful fall portrait.  In addition to the foliage depending on your portrait location in D.C., you could even have the monuments in the background.  ​

5.  Location, Location, Location

Washington D.C. is filled with several different areas to have beautiful family portraits.  Here are just a few recommendations:  

• Gravelly Point Park - located adjacently to Reagan National Airport
• Thomas Jefferson Memorial - near the Tidal Basin
• US National Arboretum - one of the most popularly photographed places is the Capital Columns display

Please note:  The National Park services requires a permit to have professional photography on Federal land in Washington D.C.  This includes the National Mall and all the monuments.  The permits can range from $50 to $250 per session.
