Army Promotion Ceremony at Inter-American Defense College
A few weeks ago, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Perez-Marsden contacted me to determine my available to photograph her promotion ceremony in Washington DC at Fort McNair. We schedule a time to talk, so I could learn her wishes and vision for the upcoming promotion ceremony. Thankfully, I was already scheduled to be in Northern Virginia for another event, so I was thrilled to be a part of her ceremony by photographing it.
She mentioned this was a big event for her immediate family and extended family, as many of her family members were coming from out of state. For many military members promotion and retirement ceremonies are significant, because many friends and family will travel from across the country to witness this significant moment in the military members career. Today was Lt Col Perez-Marsden's day to be recognized and promotion to Colonel.
Upon arrival, many guests posed for Lt Col Perez-Marsden's son. He was hard at work. Shortly before the start of the ceremony, the promotion cake was delivered by Cakes by Chris Furin.
General Horlander spoke about the significance of Lt Col Perez-Marsden's military career and how vital she is to the Army.
He was even able to get a few jokes in that made the family extremely tickled.
Then it was time for the family to come forward and pin on the new rank of Colonel. Colonel Perez-Marsden was pinned on by her husband and father.
Then her children were called forward to change Colonel Perez-Marsden epaulettes.
Then the Oath of Office was administered.
At the completion of Colonel Perez-Marsden's promotion ceremony, she thanked her guests and shared a few laughs.
The day was topped off by receiving a salute from her brother First Sergeant Perez.
It was truly an honor photographing Colonel Perez-Marsden's promotion ceremony at Fort McNair.
