10 Reasons to Schedule Family Fall Portraits

It’s hard to believe we're at the end of July and fall is right around the corner in Northern Virginia and many families will be looking for a photographer to capture those smiles, missing teeth, weird haircuts, and so much more.  The beautiful fall colors will be vibrant and make for a wonderful backdrop for your family's portraits.   The beautiful colors undoubtedly make a unique and beautiful framework for family portraits. However, there are some other benefits beyond aesthetics to taking your family portraits during the autumn months.

Here are 10 reasons to schedule your professional family portraits for the fall.

1.  Autumn colors make for a gorgeous family portrait
Living in Northern Virginia offers some beautiful backdrops, but when you add in the splendor of Fall colors, it makes for a wonderful portrait.  For example, on the family portrait above, the family desired to have their pictures taken in their neighborhood.  Do you believe we were on the side of the street.  It doesn't even look like it.  What do you think?

2.  Perfect Weather
Yes, summer and the excessive heat will be gone…let’s do a dance.  With Autumn, it typically means cooler temperatures which leads to comfortable portrait sessions.  Less sweating and nice breezes...makes for a nice picture.  ​

3.  You can incorporate costumes into your images
Do your kids like to play dress up?  If so, it’s easy to incorporate costumes into the family pictures even add a pumpkin or two.  This idea is even more fun when the entire family joins in on the fun and dress up together.  For example, The Incredibles family or something similar.

4.  Playing in the leaves
Can you say leave fight or jumping in a pile of leaves.  This is fun regardless if you’re young or young at heart.  These types of pictures make great candid moments of your family.

Fall is the most popular time for many families to get pictures for their Christmas cards.  I’ve even use my family’s portraits to create an ornament for my Christmas Tree.  My kids love seeing a new ornament with their picture on it.

6.  Beautiful Home Décor
Many fall colors work beautifully with home décor.  Your family will stand out in your home regardless of the colors chosen, red, brown, orange, tan, and more.  A framed portrait will be a wonderful addition to the walls of your home.

7.  Anytime is perfect
Regardless of the season, anytime is a great time to have your family photographed for memories.  When today is gone; it’s gone.  So, if you believe it’s a great time to have your family photographed then that’s the perfect time.  Our kids are continuously growing; we don’t want to miss a moment of their youth.

As a military family, living in Northern Virginia, Maryland, or Washington D.C. offers access to many of the monuments with ease.  Yes, how unique would it be to have a fall family portrait with the monuments of Washington D.C. and the fall autumn colors.  It’s a great way to remember your family’s assignment of living in the area.  Please note: The National Park service requires a photography permit to photograph in D.C.
