You've visited and glanced through my pricing and galleries and have liked what you saw; now what's next. Yay, you've decided to hire Tamieka Smith Photography to photograph your family portraits, event, or military ceremony in Northern Virginia or surrounding area. So, what’s next; to secure your desired date? I’ll ask you to complete two things next; sign an agreement and pay a retainer. The retainer is paid at the time you decide to hire me to save your date. I’m unable to hold a date and time on the calendar until this payment is received. This is to ensure that you're as committed to your portrait session or event, since I will be turning away other work. I’m sure the next question is; how do you pay? You’ll receive an invoice by email or you may submit payment securely online in the online store or via the appointment page.
Here's the outline of scheduling Tamieka Smith as your NOVA family or military event photographer.

For some reason, many people always find a reason not to take a family portrait. As a photographer, these are some of the most popular things I hear; it's too expensive, I don't have time, I need to lose weight first, I need to get my hair done; you name it I've heard it. If we decide to take pictures ourselves, the Mom is missing, because usually she's the one taking the pictures.
Location, Location, Location! It doesn't just apply to real estate. Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. is full of historical locations, monuments, and scenic roads. Choosing a photo shoot location might seem like a big deal (for some overwhelming) but it really doesn't have to be difficult. A location usually drives some of the other decisions you will need to make about your shoot so it’s important to choose the right place. We're in the Washington D.C. metro area so there are several possible locations such as a beach, historical sites, monuments, flowers, etc. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you decide on a location: 1. What kind of theme do I want? If a particular building or natural backdrop would work well with your theme, look around your area for spots that meet your requirements. If you don't know what kind of backdrop you want, take an afternoon drive for inspiration. It's easy to overlook beautiful spots that are practically in your backyard. Ask family, friends or of course us, your photographer for ideas too. For example, the image below is from a neighborhood in Northern Virginia.
Today, a camera can be found everywhere...even on our mobile smartphones. In many cases, many of my clients own a DSLR. However, those cameras and lenses that many own can not compare to the quality of cameras owned by professional photographers. Many clients like it when their images have blurry backgrounds and they (the subject of the photo) is clear and sharp. This is called bokeh. Superior equipment is need to acheive excellent bokeh. That's why professional photographers are so important. We're able to use tools to capture beautiful moments and give those moments pizzazz. ![]() This is a starting image taken from my camera. As you can see it's a great beginning, but it's flat and boring. Like many with a camera, this is the way a typical portrait will look if the portrait is captured with adequate lighting. However, that's when a professional photographer is able to take images to the next level. Would you like to see how a professional photographer would transition this basic image into a piece of art? A few weeks ago, my family decided to take a back to school family vacation to Los Angeles. While there my husband and I decided to have family portraits taken. I contacted Katee Grace Photography and we discussed possible locations. We decided to meet at the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and then walked down to the Santa Monica Pier. If you've ever been to Los Angeles, this differently a place to visit. We captured some great moments. During our session, my children asked if I had any portraits with my family (as a child). Unfortunately, my family rarely (if ever) took pictures together. It's rather disturbing. Now, as an adult, I have made it a point to (at least once a year) get family portraits taken. When I'm gone, my children will be able pull out multiple pictures and sit and tell stories to their children about my husband & I and show them what we looked like. Thank you Katee Grace Photography for documenting our vacation in Los Angeles. Decorating our homes is one of the hardest things to do. Which color should I paint the wall, should I hang pictures, which pictures should I hang, what frame should I use, and on, and one. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. Well Tamieka Smith Photography is here to assist and make your life so much easier. Once your portrait session is completed, we schedule a viewing/order session with each of our clients. During this session, we walk through your images from your portrait session. While viewing we'll indicate your favorite images and determine how you would like to display your images. Many clients want to turn their images into wall art. We hope you decide to do this as well. We can help you choose the best frame for your images, also help determine what the final product will look like with or without a matting (example below with a white matting). If assist is needed to get the perfect alignment of your portraits, we have a Art Installer as well.
Did you know you can turn your portraits from your portrait session into a gallery in your home? Absolutely you can! Since we currently live in a digital age, many clients want to purchase digital files of their favorite images. Let's be honest, many of those images stay digital and never get the opportunity to be proudly displayed on the walls of our homes. Let's change that...as you can see below. This is an awesome display of family love. We transformed four images into an awesome gallery that commands visitors. If you would like to ditch the digital image files and transform your families portraits into a gallery, contact the studio today. We can design something special specifically for your home.
